R. Avigdor Miller. “You are unable to know why He does things but His infinite wisdom has reasons for everything”. Extremely rare letter by R. Avigdor Miller.
Response to a question from an 88 year old man who wrote to R. Miller (the question is on the reverse side of the letter), “that although I believe that G-d created the world, I don’t believe G-d is running the world now. I believe that He created the world and left it”. R. Miller responds “If the marvelous plan and purpose that you see everywhere can convince you of an all-powerful G-d, then why should you think that He forsook His world? You are unable to know why He does things, but His infinite wisdom has reasons for everything. Remember: you can lose nothing by believing in Him. There is no punishment for believing, so why be so reckless and stop believing, when it costs nothing to believe? Believe, and you will gain reward”.
R. Miller concludes with his phone number and the hours he is available.
R. Avigdor Miller (1908-2001), was born in Baltimore and learned in Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchanan before travelling to Lithuania to learn in the Slabodka Yeshiva. There he developed into a prodigious Talmid Chochom and Ba’al Mussar. After returning to America, he served as Mashgiach in Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin, and was the Rav of a shul first in East New York and later in Flatbush. He authored tens of seforim and delivered thousands of shiurim, which exerted a tremendous influence. Despite the almost 20 years since his passing, his seforim and shiurim are still enormously popular and continue to inspire Jews of all groups.
