R. Moshe Feinstein. Historic responsa regarding Rebbeim in a Yeshiva calling a strike for a raise in pay. New York 1974. Seemingly unpublished.
Autograph responsa by R. Moshe Feinstein to the president of a Yeshiva, regarding a planned strike by the Rebbeim, in order to pressure the board into giving them a raise in salary. R. Moshe writes that seeing that the only reason it is permissible to receive a salary for teaching Torah is because the teachers can otherwise get another job, since in this case, they were already being paid and receiving a significant raise, it is prohibited for them to strike and cause Bittul Torah.
R. Moshe Feinstein (1895-1986), was born in Uzda, Belarus where his father served as Rav. Recognized as an outstanding Talmid Chochom from a very young age, he was appointed to his first rabbinical post at age 21 and as Rav of Luban a few years later. Following increased religious persecution in Soviet Russia, he immigrated to the United States. He served as Rosh Yeshiva in Mesivta Tiferes Yerusholayim where he taught hundreds of distinguished talmidim. He had a prime role in the establishment of the orthodox Jewish community in the U.S. and greatly impacted Jewry the world over. He was the preeminent Posek of his time answering thousands of Halachic questions from across the world.
