Mei Naftoach/Mayim Tehorim. Copy of R. Mattisyohu Straschun. First editions Bialystok 1816-1817.
Lot of two important seforim by R. Yehuda Leib Edal, the Slonimer Maggid. May Naftoach, on the RaMBaM’s commentary to Seder Taharos; Mayim Tehorim, commentary on Mishnayos Seder Taharos. Both of these seforim were received with great acclaim.
R. Yehuda Leib Edal (1757-1828), was known as a great Talmid Chochom and Mekubal, as well an expert Darshan, and was particularly proficient in Aggada, Midrash and Dikduk. When the Gaon saw his Sefer on Dikduk, he was greatly impressed and requested to meet him, and he became close to the Gaon. He served as the Maggid of Slonim and authored the famed Afikei Yehuda, which includes his famous hesped on the Vilna Gaon, among other seforim.
R. Mattisyohu Straschun (1817-1885), was a son of the famed RaShaSH. He learned in the Volozhin Yeshiva under R. Itzele Volozhiner as well as under R. Menashe of Ilya. In addition to being a prolific Talmid Chochom and philanthropist, he assembled a tremendous collection of Seforim which came to be known as the famous Straschun Library.
