In the early days of the nascent State of Israel, the Neturei Karta released a pamphlet of their grievances against the Agudas Yisroel led by R. Itche Meir Levin titled L’Hasir HaMasveh. They were particularly opposed to him having signed Israel’s Declaration of Independence and as such considered Agudas Yisroel as accomplices to all the difficulties the State placed upon the Chareidim. Although the official policy of the Agudas Yisroel had always been not to respond to such criticism, R. Yaakov Rosenheim decided to make an exception, and responded with a rebuttal pamphlet titled L’Hasir Masveh in which Neturei Karta is accused of deliberately distorting facts. The echoes of this fierce debate continue to reverberate until today.
