Rare, well-preserved: Sefer Tuviya, with translation into Latin. Early edition

Sefer Tuvya, ‘Tobias Hebrai’ “in Hebrew with translation into Latin on the side by Pauli Baggi”, a composition from the Second Temple period as mentioned at the beginning: “This book is of Tuviya ben Chananel ben Gavriel of the Tribe of Naphtali…exiled under Shalmanazar the king of Assyria together with the residents of the Galilee”, written in a rich, florid language. There are those who include it in the last books of the Prophets but its contents and nature are not well-known and it is not included among the Sifrei Kodesh. This printing has Hebrew and Latin on facing pages, with a long introduction in Latin with various quotes in Hebrew, possibly from the New Testament. The National Library includes it in the Rare Books Collection. Second edition, printed by Paulus Bagius. 24 pages. The last page has a wood-carved engraving with animals and the inscription: “Every good tree bears good fruit” and “It is a tree of life for those who grasp it.” Old binding is detached, light stains, overall excellent condition.

The title page has a faded inscription, a symbol with the note “Grendon Kall 1850” and a long English note. Additional emphases and notes handwritten.
