The laws of a Torah scroll, tefillin and mezuzot, by R. Avraham son of Zvi Jaffe. Zhitomir, Shadov press. 1868. 86 leaves, 26 cm.

Only edition. The author collected the laws of Sta”m from rulings of the early and later sages, and from many works of responsa. Printed on the title page is a note that many of the responsa were taken from manuscripts of R. Gershon of Kitov, R. Shabtai of Rashkov, R. Yaakov of Samila, R. Shmuel of Kaminka and R. Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch. With many approbations highly praising the author.

With the owner’s stamp of R. Yitzchak Blazer. R. Yitzchak Blazer was born in Lithuania in 1837, and was one of the primary disciples of R. Yisrael Salanter. He served as Rabbi of St. Petersburg, and is thus, more well-known as ‘Reb Itzele Peterburger.’ In 1904 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Batei Broida, the home of greatest baalei mussar, passing away there in 1907. He authored Pri Yitzchak, a work of responsa and halachic studies (Vilna, 1881 – Jerusalem, 1913, on sale in this catalogue). The stamp in this copy was made after his arrival in Jerusalem, as it says that he was previously Rabbi of St. Petersburg.
