FRENCH ROMAN CATHOLIC CARDINALS: Louis-Ernest Dubois (1856-1929) French Roman Catholic Cardinal, Arc...
FRENCH ROMAN CATHOLIC CARDINALS: Louis-Ernest Dubois (1856-1929) French Roman Catholic Cardinal, Archbishop of Paris 1920-29. A.L.S., Louis Card, Dubois, Arch. de Paris, one page, small 4to, Saint-Calais, 2nd May n.y. (1920s), to Madame la Marquise, in French. Dubois informs his correspondent that he will be returning to Paris tomorrow evening but will be taken up all day in Saint-Lazare, adding 'I will therefore be deprived of the honour to receive you, and of the joy to converse with you about La Brindille'. With blank integral leaf; Alfred-Henri-Marie Baudrillart (1859-1942) French Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, Rector of the Institut Catholique de Paris 1907-42. T.L.S., Alfred Baudrillart, one page, 8vo, Paris, 28th May 1920, to a lady, on the printed stationery of the Institut Catholique de Paris, in French. Baudrillart announces that his correspondent's idea is very beautiful, adding that she can use his name and also remarking 'Naturally, I don't see any objection to your using Mr. Cruppi's name on the same list', further referring to his aunt, Mrs Fousse de Sacy, who 'is still alive and still active'. With blank integral leaf. Together with an A.L.S., Alfred Baudrillart, two pages, 8vo, Paris, 24th September 1920, to Madame la Marquise de St. Vincent de Brassac, on the printed stationery of the Institut Catholique de Paris, in French. Baudrillart states that his correspondent's kind wishes have touched him deeply and continues to add 'But you know as well as I do what the information found in the newspapers is worth, especially in such matters; it deserves only a modest credit; who knows what happens in Rome when it comes to appoint a bishop? As for me, I am morally sure to not be the Archbishop of Paris, and not to mention the supernatural reasons, my passion for independence alone would be enough to make me wish to not be. I won't be any less of a dedicated patron to your beautiful work, and I am happy to have read the article you were kind enough to send me.' With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Baudrillart. Some light creasing and minor age wear, and a few paperclip rust stains etc., generally about VG, 3
