GERMAN "J" IDENTITY CARD ISSUED TO AN AUSTRIAN JEW
Uncommon partly-printed D.S., 4pp. 12mo., Wien, Jan. 20, 1939, a "Kennkarte" issued to Ernst "Israel" Baumhorn, a Jewish man born in January 7, 1909. The book is stamped "J" on the cover and again within, signifying that the owner is "Juden", or a Jew. The addition of "Israel" to his name was required to further identify the bearer as a Jew. With his photo portrait and fingerprints. Purple "EVAKUIERT" stamp at bottom indicates that he was evacuated on Oct. 27, 1941, though the final destination is not present. Typical wear, else very good.
