U.S. WILL NOT RECOGNIZE GERMAN OCCUPATION GOVERNMENT OF DENMARK

Interesting press release, 12pp. legal folio, Department of State, Washington, Apr. 14, 1941. The release indicates that the State Department had received notice from the German-controlled government of Denmark, which had been invaded only five days earlier, that Danish Minister to the United States Henrik de Kauffmann was immediately recalled and that an agreement between the two countries as to Greenland being considered part of the Western Hemisphere was immediately abrogated. The release further states, incorporating responses by Secretary of State Cordell Hull, that the U.S. considered the Danish Government to be acting ""under duress"" and that the U.S. would still consider the minister's credentials to be valid ""until Denmark shall again be free..."" Also included are three additional press releases from the Danish Legation in Washington, Sep. 22, 1943 and Feb. 27, 1944, not translated. These releases were sent to LAURITZ MELCHIOR, the famous Danish-American opera singer. Good to very good.
