MAXIME WEYGAND

(1867 - 1965) French general who fought under Foch at the Marne, and in World War II replaced the panic-stricken Gamelin as chief of the general staff, captured by the Germans as he sought to join the Free French. T.L.S. on letterhead of the High Commission of the French Republic in Syria and Lebanon, 4pp. sm. folio, [n.p.], Aug. 4, 1923, in French sending a response from the Director of the Army Health Service on the St. Charles Hospital and other matters related to the French forces in Syria. Lightly toned, else very good.
