MARK CLARK
MARK CLARK
(1896 - 1984) American general, commanded the landings at Salerno and Anzio against the forces of Kesselring. Fine content T.L.S. on The Citadel letterhead, 1p. 4to., Charleston, Feb. 23, 1981. Clark answers his correspondent's questions, in part: '...General Patton was a fine soldier...we are not prepared nor have any reason to invade Russia. Russia has declared her intentions of destroying the United States and all we have ever fought for so we had better build up our military strength...our country is in jeopardy...I do not feel President Truman should have dismissed General MacArthur...Truman was entirely justified in dropping the Atomic Bomb...' Fine condition.
