(1908 - 1975) Member of the British Mechanised Transport Corps during World War II, who served as a chauffeur and later as personal secretary to Dwight D. Eisenhower and whom it was rumored had an affair with the future president. T.L.S. on Office of the Supreme Commander letterhead, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], March 19, 1945, to a Mr. and Mrs. Bollinger, stating in full: 'General Eisenhower is most appreciative of your Christmas greetings card.' Summersby signs at the conclusion in black ink. Fine. Sold with a separate letter to Mr. Bollinger, dated Jan. 5, 1944, again thanking him for sending Christmas wishes, bearing Summersby's secretarial signature of General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
