KARL ERNST

(1904 - 1934) Early SA leader in Berlin, one of the suspects of the 1933 Reichstag fire, arrested and executed after his role in the Night of the Long Knives. Unusual S.A. promotion card, 4 x 2 in., indicating Ernst's group "Berlin-Brandenburg" and a promotion to "Obersturmfuhrer" on Oct. 5, 1939 in Berlin, bearing an "S.A. Berlin-Brandenburg" stamp and a small "1" written in red indelible pencil at top-right corner. Ernst signs at the bottom-right in black ink, adding "Bernburg" in pencil at the bottom-left. Fine, and a rare example!
