GOTTFRIED BANFIELD
(1890 - 1986) World War I Austro-Hungarian naval pilot, probably the most successful of all. He was known as the 'Eagle of Trieste' and was the last person in history to wear the Military Order of Maria Theresa. He may have been the only flying ace who flew a flying boat to five or more victories. A.L.S. on his personal 12mo. correspondence card, Trieste, July 21, 1980, not translated but apparently refers to signing a military-related postal cover. Marginal file holes, else very good.
