GERHARD WAGNER

(1898 - 1987) German admiral and naval attach� in Madrid, Spain. The "Wagner Campaign" from January to August 1940 brought tons of strategic commodities, mainly tungsten, from Spain to Germany. Wagner was also signatory to the German surrender to Montgomery at Luneberg Heath. S.P., 5.75 x 4 in. b/w, an image of Wagner in uniform seated at a table with pen in hand, signed at top-left of the face in blue ink, adding rank 'Vice Admiral'. The reverse side bears a pencil inscription, likely added in Wagner's own hand, reading: 'On Naval High Command from 1943'. Signature slightly smudged, else fine.
