BENITO MUSSOLINI
BENITO MUSSOLINI
(1883 - 1945) Italian dictator whose fascist supporters marched on Rome, securing him power; allied with Hitler, after many military and political setbacks he was captured and executed at war's end by partisans. Good content typed D.S. in Italian on Ministero Della Marina letterhead, 2pp. legal folio, Rome, May 23, 1925, notably showing the increased militarization of the Italian government after Mussolini's rise to power. It reads, in part: 'The Office of the General Staff of the Royal Navy...raised the important question concerning requirements that merchant ships should meet...in order to let the Merchant Navy take part in resistance and national defense in the event of a war...I would therefore judge necessary and urgent that a Navy Corps of Engineers senior Officer....to be appointed for this task...' Mussolini signs at the conclusion of the second page. Slightly ragged edges, else very good to fine.
