(1871 - 1948) American inventor and a pioneer of flight, Wright, with his brother Wilbur, made the first successful flight of a motor-driven airplane. Fine association D.S., 4pp. 12mo. (opened), 1926, a U.S. Federation Aeronautical International Annual License issued to future general CALEB VANCE HAYNES who is pictured within, Mar. 15, 1896, license no. 166, signed by Wright within, as well as by Haynes. Worn at center fold, else very good. CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966) was a U.S. Air Force major general and one of the most important and talented military aviators and commanders of World War II. Haynes organized the Assam-Burma-China Ferry Command and evacuated Burma with the Chinese and RAF. He then went to China to organize and command the Bomber Command of the China Air Task Force under Gen. Claire Chennault. He later returned to India to organize the India Air Task Force of the 10th Air Force.
