SOVIET YOUNG PIONEERS UNIT FLAG
Unit flag from a Soviet 'Young Pioneer's Unit', 48 x 34 in. overall, likely created after World War II. The banner bears a heavily embroidered red cotton field which itself depicts a flagpole and banner. That flag shows a hammer and sickle with small birch logs burning in the foreground with the motto "Be Ready!" above. Lettering at top and bottom reads: "CHANGES LEAD TO CHANGES". All of the embroidery on the flag is of gold metal bullion and colored cotton thread. The flag is constructed in three horizontal pieces, with gold bullion fringe along three sides and a sewn-over flap at the hoist to accommodate a flag pole. There are significant stains and a few tears, all of which are present outside the central design.
