WILLIAM MCKINLEY
(1843 - 1901) Twenty-fifth President of the United States, acquired Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and Hawaii, assassinated. Partly-printed vellum D.S. as president, 1p. 15 x 19 in., Sept. 29, 1899, the presidential appointment of Oscar W. Farenholz as a "Captain of the Navy...in the service of the United States". Countersigned by Secretary of the Navy JOHN D. LONG (1838 - 1915), and featuring an embossed blue Navy Department seal and patriotic vignettes at top and bottom. Cockling throughout with some loss to the upper corners, first name of signature a tad light, else fine.
