1916 WATERCOLOR PAINTING, 13TH CANADIAN BATTALION IN ACTION
Excellent original ink and watercolor battle scene executed and signed by Canadian artist Lt. JOHN MCQUEEN MOYES (1888-1948) while serving with the 13th Canadian Battalion, The Royal Highlanders of Canada, in 1916. The 8 x 6 in. painting depicts kilted Canadian troops boldly attacking Germans defending their trenches. The artist captions his work: "Sketch of the attack made upon The German Trenches by the 13th Canadian Battalion on June 13th 1916". Fine condition. Moyes served for the length of the war and received two wounds in his left leg. One of his works is displayed in the Canadian War Museum.
