1916 INK DRAWING, 13TH CANADIAN RATION LIMBER
Excellent original ink battle scene executed and signed by Canadian artist Lt. JOHN MCQUEEN MOYES (1888-1948) while serving with the 13th Canadian Battalion, The Royal Highlanders of Canada, in 1916. The 8 x 6 in. painting dramatically depicts a rations limber drawn by two terrified horses being whipped-on by a rider. Titled by the artist: "The Ration Limbers of the 13th Canadian Battalion The Royal Highlanders of Canada being shelled on the way to the trenches 18th April 1916" Signed and dated 1916 at bottom. Fine condition. Moyes served for the length of the war and received two wounds in his left leg. One of his works is displayed in the Canadian War Museum.
