GERMAN PRISONER''S ORIGINAL ARTWORK
GERMAN PRISONER'S ORIGINAL ARTWORK
A wonderful original ink and watercolor prison image executed by a German prisoner held by the Russians during World War I. The 5.5 x 3.5 postcard bears Russian and French text printed on the verso, indicating that the sender was being held at a military prison in Siberia. on the blank face of the card, an unknown German P.O.W. has painted a scene of two uniformed German soldiers seated beside a large brick stove fitted with cooking vats. The men are occupied with cooking chores, apparently peeling and slicing potatoes. The artist has satirically captioned his work: "Fresh scraps". A great piece of prison camp art, rarely seen.
