(INVENTOR OF THE TANK) ERNEST SWINTON

(1868 - 1951) British Army officer who played a part in the development and adoption of the tank during the First World War. He also initiated the use of the word "tank" as a code-name for the first tracked, armored fighting vehicles. T.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Oct. 8, 1940 stating that he agrees with the manifesto of the "League of European Security" but regrets his other obligations makes it impossible for him to contribute. Slightly soiled, else very good.
