WILLY COPPENS

(1892-1986) Belgium's leading fighter ace and the champion "balloon buster" of World War I. He was credited with 37 confirmed victories and six probables. Fine content A.L.S., 1p. 4to., La Panne, Mar. 11, 1971 in English. In part: "We long have in France, and also in Belgium, the Association of the Vielles Tiges[?]. I was an honorary member of both, but dismissed them as they are all so ridiculous'me too'whom I called the D.F.N. (decorated for nothing) chasing medals and honour. Should be surprised if the Early Birds are not more or less the same?...I have written 12 books altogether, several very critic[al], some terribly sarcastic" Fine.
