MAJOR GEN. CALEB VANCE HAYNES GOLD POCKET WATCH
Personal gold pocket watch owned by Major General CALEB VANCE HAYNES. This beautifully engraved Elgin gold watch measures 1.5 in. across, and contains a 15-jewel movement. It appears to be in working order. Sold with one of the general's calling cards. According to our consignor, a direcot linear descendant, this watch originally belonged to the general's father, Caleb Hill Haynes, Jr. who was a prominent North Carolina politician and a county sheriff for over 20 years before being elected to the state assembly. With our letter of provenance. CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966) was a U.S. Air Force major general and one of the most important and talented military aviators and commanders of World War II. Haynes organized the Assam-Burma-China Ferry Command and evacuated Burma with the Chinese and RAF. He then went to China to organize and command the Bomber Command of the China Air Task Force under Gen. Claire Chennault. He later returned to India to organize the India Air Task Force of the 10th Air Force.
