MAJOR GEN. CALEB VANCE HAYNES MODEL 1903 ARMY OFFICER''S DRESS SWORD
MAJOR GEN. CALEB VANCE HAYNES MODEL 1903 ARMY OFFICER'S DRESS SWORD
Model 1903 Army Officer's dress sword and scabbard owned and carried by future Major General CALEB VANCE HAYNES. The 29.25 in. blade is double engraved, and is maker-marked by Pettibone Mfg. Co. The blade bears just a slight bit of corrosion but is otherwise very good. Cage shows a bit of corrosion but is still very good, grip is fine. Scabbard is straight and free of dents, lightly oxidized. A simple leather sword knot is also tied to the grip. Consigned directly by a linear descendant with our letter of provenance. CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966) was a U.S. Air Force major general and one of the most important and talented military aviators and commanders of World War II. Haynes organized the Assam-Burma-China Ferry Command and evacuated Burma with the Chinese and RAF. He then went to China to organize and command the Bomber Command of the China Air Task Force under Gen. Claire Chennault. He later returned to India to organize the India Air Task Force of the 10th Air Force.
