AMERICAN DOUGHBOY''S BRIEFCASE, INSCRIBED WITH A RECORD OF HIS SERVICE

A fascinating relic from an American World War I soldier, a leather briefcase, approx. 19.75 x 4.5 x 10 in., belonging to H.N. Brown, Supply Co. 334 Q.M.C., who has delicately written a record of his service throughout the case's exterior. The outer rim of the lid bears the ink inscription "A.M.F. SUPPLY CO. 334 Q.M.C.", while the base bears ink inscriptions of over forty various locations where he has served throughout the war, including "...BORDEAUX...FRANCE...GERMANY...ALSACE-LORRAINE..." and many others. The case, rather ironically, bears a German manufacturer's mark right above the latch, reading "Joh. Hapt. Do...BERLIN", and the latch's original locking mechanism remains functional. Pencil outlines for all the ink lettering, likely used by Brown before adding ink on top, are prevalent throughout. One metal piece has come loose from the lid. Still very good, sold with the original key.
