Spanish Etched Main Gauche Dagger, Toledo Late-1800s
Iberian Peninsula, Spain, Toledo, Artilleria Fabbrica de Toledo Main Gauche or left handed companion dagger with scabbard. Circa late-1800s. Finely etched with a blackened background to the guard, ricasso, pommel, blade, and scabbard mounts. This example modeled after the dress weapons carried in the 17th and 18th century. Size 17" L, blade 9 1/4" L
Toledo known for it's exception bladesmiths has produced blades as early as 2000 years ago in the 5th century BCE. The high point of their craftsmanship in the 17th century produced some of the finest examples of Rapiers and Main Gauche companion daggers known.
