French Army 1845/1855 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword & Scabbard
Nice French army 1845 to 1855 pattern infantry officers sword with scabbard. Fine diagonally ribbed ebony horn grip with gilt brass twisted wire over. Fitted pommel and guard in a very well pierced openwork with a single downturned quillion. Stamped to the underside of the guard - G3. Gently curved single edge blade with a deep blood groove to just below the spine. Proof marked with a (B) under the crown at the ricasso. Engraved to the spine of the blade with arsenal marks appearing to be the "Royal manufacture of Arms at Klingenthal" in Alsace. Scabbard in gilt brass mounts and leather construction. Size 36" L, blade 29 1/2" L

The weapon factory of Klingenthal was founded under King Louis XV in 1730 and remained active until 1962. It now remains as a museum.

Condition: Wear commensurate to age and use with additional wear to the finish and gilt surfaces. Scabbard leather worn with cracking.
