The Morning of Saturday, August 3rd, we will bid farewell to a unique legacy collection of American toys and banks: The Haradin Family Collection. A magnificent and richly historical archive, it spans multiple generations of a family whose roots are deeply embedded in two communities: their native Pittsburgh and the borderless realm of antique toy and bank collecting. This auction hits especially close to home for us because the Pittsburgh clan that built the collection includes our lifelong friend and colleague Ray Haradin, the "R" of RSL Auction Company. The Afternoon of Saturday, August 3rd we will be selling the world class paper lithography collection of Carl & Linda Thomas of Bluefield, WV. Included are many fantastic skittle and knockdown sets, about 15 sets of paper litho trains and about 15 to 20 paper litho horse drawn toys. Also included in this sale is a selection of still banks, penny toys, and the Kobe Toy Collection of Ron & Sandy Rosen.

London General Omnibus Limited - Paper Litho Toy
Made by the Bliss Mfg. Company. Pawtucket, RI - Ca. 1890 - 23" Long. From the Collection of Richmond Holder. "In Latin, the word ""omnibus"" simply means ""for all"". This term was astutely applied to London's mid 19th century transportation system, which involved fleets of horse-drawn enclosed coaches. These vehicles ferried Londoner's through the city's many neighborhoods safely and expeditiously. However, the notion ""for all"" in reality only pertained to ""all"" those who could actually afford such service. This particular toy illustrates a rare form of omnibus with an enclosed lower compartment and an open upper platform accessed via the staircase. The interior compartment features thirteen passengers. On the rear platform, one finds the conductor and on the upper deck we find six male passengers along with the driver. The destination board indicates that the omnibus travels between Piccadilly Circus and Charing Cross Station via Liverpool St.The walls of the upper deck are filled with a humorous advertisement for Sapolio, a cleanser that makes dirt despair. The current lot represents one of the most significant pieces of lithographed paper and wood toy in the hobby.Historical Note - The London General Omnibus Company (LGOC) was founded in 1855 to bring together and regulate the many independent horse-drawn omnibus services then operating in London. In consolidating these companies, the LGOC rapidly became the largest omnibus operator in London. Their fleet of 600 omnibuses represented 3/4 of the total omnibus force in London."
Condition: Outstanding State of Preservation.
