Jonah and the Whale Bank
Very Rare Pedestal Variation. Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Connecticut - Circa 1888. Shepard Hardware's version of the Jonah and the Whale Bank was distributed for sale at the same time as the Stevens bank. It focuses on the moment when Jonah is thrown overboard by his shipmates and swallowed by the whale. In contrast, the bank designers at J. & E. Stevens have chosen to emphasize the final chapter of the narrative, in which Jonah is expelled from the whale's mouth after three soul-searching days of repentance. The Jonah Pedestal Bank demonstrates a fusion of design and color that grabs our attention and captivates our eyes. Moreover, the action for this bank employs an element of surprise that amuses all those who play with it. To operate the bank, you must first pull the lever back to lock the whale's mouth and tail in place. Then, put your penny in the small red boat that runs alongside the whale. Pushing the activating button causes the whale to spit Jonah out on the sandy beach laden with shells. In the same action, the whale raises his tail and the coin is deposited. Very few examples of the Jonah Pedestal Bank have ever come to light. The Mosler Jonah Pedestal is absolutely dazzling flawless condition.
Condition: Near Mint Condition.
