Butting Buffalo - Cast Iron Mechanical Bank
Made by Kyser & Rex Company. Frankford, Pennsylvania - 1880's. Curious to see what's on top of a tall sawed off tree stump, a young boy is lifted up by the head of a friendly buffalo. Once there, he comes face to face with an ornery little raccoon, the negative racial implication being that one coon was staring directly at another. Today, such banks are seen as portraying troubling sociocultural imagery, however, in their historic context, they present the social convictions of the postbellum period.
Condition: Excellent Condition.
