Three Wheeled Articulated Walking Horse - Cast Iron Toy
Made by the Ives, Blakeslee Company. Bridgeport, Ct. - Circa 1880 - 8" Long. The clumsy design of this rare toy indicates that it was the earliest incarnation of Ives' iconic walking horse. Visually, one cannot enjoy the movement of the horse's legs because the action is obscured by the large wheels. These flaws were addressed by the design team at Ives when they rethought this project and came up with a much more visually pleasing adaptation, the four wheeled version on platform base.
Condition: Excellent Condition.
