Classic: Sefer Pe’er HaDor — Rambam’s Responsa, Amsterdam 1765. First Edition. Copy of R. Naftali Hirsch Katzenelenbogen.

A complete copy of Sefer Pe’er HaDor, which contains two hundred twenty six responsa, primarily those of R. Moshe b. Maimon (Rambam, 1135-1204), translated from the Arabic into Hebrew by R. Mordecai b. Isaac Temah. Among the responsa included are several from the great Sephardic Torah Leader, R. Joseph b. Meir ha-Levi ibn Migash, (1077-1141), known as the Ri MiGash.

The Rambam wrote his Responsa in Egypt, beginning in about 1167, a short time after his arrival there, until shortly before his death.

Present in this volume are responsa concerning Rambam's Mishneh Torah (see: 17, 41) and Rambam's correspondence, for example, with R. Samuel ibn Tibbon, the translator of the Mishneh Torah (see 143).

This work begins with an extensive foreword in Spanish from the philanthropist R. Yaakov Sasportas, grandson of the Sephardic sage R. Yaakov Sasportas.

This copy belonged to R. Naftali Hirsch Katzenelenbogen, the author of ‘Sha’ar Naftali’ and a foremost disciple of R. Yaakov HaCohen Katz, author of Shev Yaakov.

Also seen is the personal stamp of R. Shlomo Zev (Wolf) Klein, Rabbi of Colmar, France. R. Klein filled the position of the above mentioned R. Katzenelenbogen as Rabbi of Colmar in 1850. Hence the ownership of two of Colmar’s leading Rabbis.

R. Klein was an ardent opponent of the Reform, and joined forces with R. Samson Refael Hirsch in an effort to combat this movement.

In very good-excellent condition. Paper slightly browned.
