Large Chinese Tang Dynasty Bactrian Camel Figure
Large Chinese Tang dynasty ceramic pottery figure in the form of a bactrian two-humped camel with saddlebags, ca. 618-907 CE. With a straw-colored glaze and a wooden stand. The camel stands on all four legs on a rectangular base with saddlebags brimming with goods. A mug and a bird spill out from either side. The camel's head is held high.

A similar example is held in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Accession no. 75.84).

(Not including stand) height: 14 in x width: 12 1/2 in x depth: 8 in.
Condition: Wear consistent with age. There is chipping along the camel's underside. There is also a vertical crack running along the camel's right flank where the load meets the camel's rear. Some accretions throughout, particularly along the surface of the base.
