Joseph August Knip (Dutch, 1777-1847). Oil on board painting depicting an idyllic landscape with farm animals grazing along a riverbank with a windmill in the background. Signed along the lower left corner with a label along the verso.
Sight; height: 8 1/2 in x width: 11 in. Framed; height: 16 in x width: 18 1/4 in.
Condition: The painting is in good condition overall with no major losses, visible cracks or restoration under UV light. Under UV light, there is an unevenness to the surface due to a thick varnish to the upper left quadrant. Varnish has discolored. There is craquelure visible throughout the recto, most noticeably to the center of the painting. Along the lower margin, there is paint loss against the frame. Wear to the frame; dust collected to the surface; cracks to the frame, which do not affect the painting. There is no visible sign of restoration under UV inspection.
