Stoumbis, John ( ) untitled adobe street, 1970 watercolor, signed in lower left, good condition, image size: 8.25 x 11.25 inches. John Stoumbis was born in Minot, North Dakota. After World War II, he began his studies in art at the Hill and Canyon School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, under well known artists such as: John Sloan, Will Schuster, Randall Davy, Louie Ewing, Warren Wheelock and Cyrus Baldridge. He has lived in the Southwest for many years and continued his study of fine art at New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico where he earned his BFA and Master of Fine Arts degrees. He has exhibited throughout the United States and many of his paintings now appear in private collections and galleries. His themes in painting emphasize the colorful Southwest regions and the nostalgia of Nature.He paints with a personal relationship to his subjects and depicts the deep roots of the people to the soil. His landscapes communicate a feeling of light and brilliance all of which he has experienced firsthand in his many years of work in the rural and remote areas of New Mexico.
