Rogers, Charles (1911-1987) "Prelude to a Spring Evening" oil on board, signed in lower right, good but dirty, image size: 12 x 16 inches. A painter, art educator, and member of the Prairie Printmaker Society, Charles B Rogers (1911-1987) was known for his airy landscapes of the American West, often with pastel hues executed in oil. He was born in Great Bend, Kansas, and studied at the National Academy of Design; Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas under Birger Sandzen; the California College of Arts and Crafts; and with Dong Kingman and Jay Connaway. From 1947 to 1953, he taught at Lindsborg College, and from 1954 to 1966, he was Manager and Assistant Director of the Huntington Hartford Museum in Los Angeles. After that, he was a Professor of Art at Kansas State University.
