The Chasam Sofer was a passionate admirer of the Yaabetz who referred to him as the “Greatest of Achronim” (Shu”t Chasam Sofer Yoreh Deah Ch. 264).

Rabbi Mordechai Banet, the famous Rabbi of Nikolsburg, gazed for a long time at the handwritten letter he received from the Chassam Sofer, and said that just looking at his handwriting is a segula to acquire Yiras Shamayim. Many stories are told of the power of the Chasam Sofer’s manuscripts and it is said that his son Rabbi Shimon Sofer of Krakow would look at his father’s manuscripts when having to make difficult decisions, as a member of the Austrian parliament.
