Rabbi Yehudah Yudel Middleman [1801-1865] was born in Lvov c. 1801. As an adult he moved to Warsaw, where he became close to the author of Shoel U'Meishiv (whom he mentions in the book). He immigrated to the United States and settled in New York, where he passed away in 1865.
