Long letter written and signed by Rabbi Shmuel Ehrenfeld of Mattersdorf.
R' Shmuel Ehrenfeld of Mattersdorf (1891-1980), was a descendant of the Chasam Sofer and one of the pre-eminent Rabbonim in pre-war Austria. At the age of 19, he received Semicha from R. Meir Arik and R. Yosef Engel. He assumed his father’s position as Rav in Mattersdorf in 1926, with his halachic rulings being widely respected and accepted. In 1938 he escaped the Nazis and immigrated to America, where he founded Yeshivas Chasan Sofer in the Lower East Side, which eventually relocated to Boro Park. In 1958, R. Shmuel founded Kiryas Mattersdorf in Yerusholayim.
