Bechinat Olam, a foundational work of Jewish thought by Rabbi Yedidya HaPnini (author of the Mivchar HaPninim), a Rishon. This edition contains the first edition of the commentary by Rabbi Moshe ben Haviv and the Memin commentary (a bakasha with lines all starting with the letter mem) by Rabbi Yosef Fransisch. Printed in Ferrara, 1552. 122, 13 leaves. Categorized as rare by the National Library.


New handsome binding, reinforcement of the title page from the back, stains, a few moth holes, overall rare condition for a book this old.

The title page has a Mizrahi signature of ownership: “Nehoray Azoviv s”t. See below.

Sage Nehoray ben Saadiya Azoviv (died 1785) was an Algerian gadol in the 18th century. He was a linguist and poet, and wrote piyyutim for Purim Sheni. He signed together with other Algerian rabbis the Shut Zera Yaakov (Livorno 1784). He edited introductions to a number of Livorno books. Wrote Chochmat HaMesaken (a seder tefilla and piyyutim).
