The Cupid's bow crest rail centered by a scallop shell, above a highly figured solid splat, the outspread arms with well executed knuckle and scrolled terminals, joining a trapezoidal leather slip seat, over a shaped front rail and bold volutes to knee returns, raised on cabriole front legs terminating in trifid feet,  the side rails having through tenons and pinned into the raked back legs with stump feet.

Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.

Footnote: For a related example see, Pook & Pook, Inc., Downingtown, Pennsylvania, "Collections from Mid-Atlantic Educational Institutions", Lot 179.

Condition:

Structurally sound. Retaining an old dark surface. The front and side seat rails appear to have been reshaped. The carved knee returns have probably been re-set. Original pine slip seat, with probably the original leather upholstery fastened to the seat with rose head nails. The right arm slightly loose. General marks, wear, rubbing and surface scratches throughout.
