English Oak Tantalus, Retailed by Tiffany & Co.
An English Oak Tantalus, Retailed by Tiffany & Co., New York City, Late 19th Century. The silverplate mounted oak carrier, fitted with three small cut glass decanters with stoppers. The carrier with side lock stamped to either end 'THE TANTALUS' and 'BETJEMANN'S PATENT 8475 LONDON' and plaque to the side inscribed 'Tiffany & Co. / Union Square'.
Dimensions: 7 1/2in; width 9 1/4in; depth 3 3/4in.
Provenance: Property from a Local Collection.
Condition:
The tantalus is in the locked position. Typical wear, rubbing , darkening and oxidation to the metalwork. The complete condition of the cut glass decanters is unknown. Scuffs, surface scratches and liquid staining to the oak carrier. No key.
