Aguna Controversy. Historical collection of ten rare works. Only Editions. Rare!
In the early Twentieth century a suggestion was made in Paris to make a Halachic marriage “Kidushin”, contingent on various conditional clauses, thereby creating a situation where the marriage could later be annulled without a traditional bill of divorce “Get”. This was an attempt to alleviate the position of a situation of a married woman remaining an Aguna in the case of a husband unwilling to provide a Get. The suggestion was fiercely opposed by almost all of the great rabbinical leaders of the era, who saw it as a great threat to the sanctity of the Jewish people.
