Classics. Mesilas Yesharim. First Edition. Amsterdam 1740. Self Published by the Author!
Near-complete copy of the classic ethical code of Jewish Ethics, by R. Moshe Chaim Luzzato. Published by the RaMCHa”L upon his arrival from Padua to Amsterdam. It has since been published in over one hundred editions, and had an almost unprecedented influence on future generations.
It is said that Vilna Gaon declared that in the first 11 chapters of this work there are no extra words and that had he had the opportunity, he would have traveled on foot to hear words of Mussar from the author. It was also enormously popular with the great Chasidic Rebbes.
R. Moshe Chaim Luzzato (1707 -1746), was born in Padua, Italy into a distinguished family. His genius was obvious from a very early age, and as a young man he was already well known for his complete mastery of the entire Biblical, Rabbinic and Kabbalistic literature. He was most well-known for his Mesilas Yesharim – perhaps the most popular Mussar work in Jewish literature. Until today, his profound works continue to touch and inspire Jews of all groups.
