''Mediterranean View'' 2023
For the first time in KooKoo - welcome the young painter Tom Fima!

Tom (b. 1996) figurative painter, creates mainly in the medium of oil paints. Tom studied art at Tel Aviv University, after which she continued to study curation at the Israeli Art House and to study realistic painting at the Art Academy in Barcelona. In the last month she returned to Israel and this is the first time she sells and presents her works in public. Today she lives and creates in Haifa.

During her stay in Spain, she fell in love with the Spanish impressionist painters (Soroya, Ramon Casas) and their love for painting women in elegant but natural poses, much of the time desperate or tired.
From there, she began to put herself in the shoes of those models and tries to imitate their mentors.
Combining the studies of realistic painting techniques, together with her love for impressionist art, makes the line of painting more loose. Tom goes back and looks for movement in the painting, and constantly strives to build and destroy the painting so that there are parts of the painting that remain very realistic, and there are parts that the viewer's eye has to complete.

At the same time, from the distance from home, a significant part of her occupation in the last year is in her roots,   in the Eastern tradition and culture that is gradually disappearing from her parents' home.

''With my family's desire to integrate into society after immigrating from Morocco, they slowly taught themselves to give up parts of tradition and culture.
And yet, even if in my grandmother's house it is forbidden to speak Arabic and you have to speak high and standard Hebrew, from a visual point of view it is impossible to deny the identity within the walls of the house: the plates on the walls, the copper kettle with the decorated teacups, the carpets, the dresses, the gold bracelets and of course the food.
Now through painting, I am looking for the connection between the new culture that has developed in my home, which combines many cultures as in many homes in Israel, to the disappearing Moroccan culture, through kitchen utensils, my grandmother's food and family members.''
