Touching Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rabin, One of the Leading Disciples of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz
Lengthy and touching letter of Torah insights handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rubin, av beit din of Krotchin and author of Beit Aharon; one of the pillars of rabbinical instruction in Galicia and one of the leading disciples and mechutan of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, 1846 [chronogram טוב ת'ר'א'ה']. Rare letter from the days of his youth. The Torah part [about half of the letter] was printed in his sefer, Shu"t Shem Olam, Part I siman 34].
The letter was sent to his childhood friend, the Chassid and gaon Rabbi Ze'ev Wolf Sendhaus of Kolbasov, who was a fellow follower of the great eshel, the sacred gaon Rabbi Ze'ev Wolf Frankel av beit din of Pshevorsk, one of the leading responders of Galicia and a disciple of the Seer of Lublin. The letter opens and closes with rare words of affection and friendship between the two gedolim, demonstrating a wondrous and uncommon bond. These passages were not printed in his sefer, Shu"t Shem Olam.
Inter alia, the gaon of Krotshin writes at the beginning of the letter: "Know that my soul is bound up with your soul, and this love forced me to take the time to respond to you" and at the end of the letter, we are exposed to the rare bond between the two Chassidic leaders, who, despite their physical distance, they discussed a common sugya from their respective locations and shared their insights with each other on the topic, sharing correspondence: "I would request from you, due to our mutual affection, that we study the Davar she'lo ba l'olam topic ... and then, G-d willing, when you have insights on this, you will share them with me, and I will do likewise"! At the end of the letter, the av beit din of Krotshin asks that the addressee mention him to their teacher [the Chozeh's disciple, Rabbi Ze'ev Wolf of Pshevorsk] "Please mention me to our honorable teacher, the gaon and Chassid ..." All these fascinating Chassidic passages were not printed in his sefer.
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rabin, av beit din of Krotchin.
