1980 United States Proof Set, 5 Coins Inside!. Original packaging: In 1980, the packaging for the Proof Sets was down-sized to accommodate the smaller Dollar coin. At the same time, the Mint got rid of the red, felt-covered paper insert that was notorious for shedding tiny flecks of red "dust" onto the coins. Instead, the coins of the 1980-S Proof Set were placed in individual holes in a red plastic insert, then sealed in a two-piece, clear plastic case.
