The illustrated plates in this portfolio were intended for school instruction. Through these vivid, deeply anti-Semitic presentations, students would imbibe rabid Nazi theories of race, with its pseudo-scientific views of modern genetics.
Alfred Vogel, a biology curriculum writer and elementary school principal in Baden, worked alongside artist Eberhard Brauchle to create these extremely virulent pedagogical images, utilizing the latest in fine color printing technology.
Due to such insidious pedagogic tools as this portfolio, by the time Hitler unleashed the Final Solution, the belief that Jews were irrevocably racially inferior was pandemic throughout German society.
